Quote of the Week

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." - Jimi Hendrix

Letting A Thousand Cranes Fly

This week we'd like to share with you heartwarming stories and reflections from students of Hiroshima International School in Japan who are spreading the message of peace through their initiative called The Thousand Crane Club.

One of the students says "I hope the international exchange through paper cranes with the Crane Club will encourage people who will be in a position to hold the nuclear button in the future to rethink using nuclear weapons. Title: You, Me, We: A Celebration of Peace and Community
By: Arun Gandhi (Author), Bethany Hegedus (Author), Andrés Landazábal (Illustrator)
For: Age 4+

Where can we find peace? It shows in the way we walk, stand, or form a circle. It can be found when we play or dig in the garden, speak up or ask for help, or sit still and listen to the silence. Whether we’re learning, taking turns, or getting past hurt feelings and misunderstandings, peace is always there, as long as we look at one another, ready to discover. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “If we are to teach real peace in this world... we shall have to begin with children.” You, Me, We does just that, as it celebrates the peace that can be found in us all.

Be The Change

Make something with your hands and infuse it with love and peace from your heart. It can be something small and simple like a sweet message on a sticky note or preparing your favorite food and share it with someone as a gesture to spread love and peace. If you are feeling inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki and the Thousand Paper Cranes and feel like making a peace crane, here's an origami tutorial video with a step by step guide to make on or two or a thousands of them :)
