A few weeks ago, a bunch of ladders and guests gathered for the annual ServiceSpace "Laddership Retreat" in Carmel Valley. With the rugged mountains and starry sky as our backdrop, many beautiful, inspiring, and joyful moments arose in our discussions about servant leadership, social media, and community. Incidentally, when I wrote about the retreat for our department's newsletter at work, I came across another person in my department who cycled 200km to raise money for Seva Canada -- a charity that is closely tied to the work of Dr. V of Aravind (as written about in "Infinite Vision"). A few others at work also shared with me how they practice Robert Greenleaf's servant leadership principles in the workplace. We talked about the power of deep listening as one of the most important attributes of servant leadership, and at our next meeting, we're going to start with a few minutes of meditation followed by a circle of sharing -- Awakin' style! Amazing how this retreat is blossoming into serendipitous connections and the emergence of a small community of service-oriented individuals. :)
