As I was walking to Starbucks with a couple of friends today, someone yells, "Bradley"! Who do I spot in his Prius (I think it was, anyway)...Kozo! What made this so beautiful is that I immediately shared his story of washing the feet of the homeless. They were both very touched by his act. Nobody knows where this may lead, but it can only be something great. I continue to see this in my life everyday. For instance, I try to make an intentional effort in picking up trash on our school campus. The other day, my son was walking ahead of me and he picked up a piece of trash without my prompt. I thanked him and said something to the affect of me rubbing off on him and he said (like a tough boy), "well, you were going to do it anyway." I'll take it, though:). And then a student walks up to me and gifts me a muffin, while another teacher approaches me to tell me that one simple sentence that I spoke to her caused her to offer herself up for service to others :) At the end of the day, I look back on not just my own interactions, but those that I see of others, and it feels like wherever I am in life, it's the right place and it's feeling like a kinder, gentler place. I'm liking this life

Love the role modeling of kindness, environmentalism, and selfless service you are doing for your children (not just blood related). I didn't mention this in the article, but my younger son was picking up trash while I was washing the feet of the homeless. I almost had to tackle him because he tried to pick up the filthy socks the homeless man peeled off his feet and left behind. He had no aversion to the smell or grime; he just wanted to help clean up. :)
Love how our ripples are intersecting. When I used to surf, we used to surf these spots where two waves would ricochet off each other, creating a wave that was more than double the size of the two waves combined--the Wedge in Newport is an example. I'm feeling like the ripples we make are creating a movement that is a lot larger than our combined efforts. I look forward to surfing this wave of kindness with you and the servicespace sangha for as long as I am able. [Hide Full Comment]
