Really excited for this weekend's Awakin call with Kay Pranis. Kay is one of the most highly respected and sought-after national trainers in the art and technique of circle practice -- healing circles, peacemaking circles, dialogue circles, and restorative justice circles. In addition to using circles for restorative justice, she has been involved in developing the use of peacemaking circles in schools, social services, churches, families, museums, universities, municipal planning and workplaces. I had the privilege of attending one of her training sessions earlier this year, at the suggestion of my dear friend Sujatha Baliga, a leading restorative justice practitioner.  I was moved by the depth of Kay's mindful attention, compassion, and self-discipline as she ably holds space for individuals and groups and supports them as they learn to communicate and work through issues. As Kay has said: "Everyone belongs in a circle. And the circle is always directed towards healing from the harm of disconnection." She says that she has learned over the years to resist the urge to solve conflict herself within the circle process and to let the group find its own way to a solution. “Sitting through the discomfort and the moments of panic … have given me a great confidence in the capacity of the group to find its way through thorny places if there’s a structure that honors each and gives each a turn, a voice.” Hope you are able to hear from Kay this Saturday!
