On March 8, Sunrise Middle School in San Jose, celebrated Day 21 of their 21-Day Kindness Challenge by lifting their kindness wishes and adventures into the air. :) Here are some of the student reflections ...

Before I thought that the people who needed the most help were the people who asked for it. But really, it’s the people who stay quiet and who struggle who need the most help. I really think this challenge had a big impact on me. It helped me feel like even if there’s only one of you, you can still make a big impact on others. – Pedro, 7th grade

I experienced Kindness when a friend helped my clean up the cafeteria. Over the 21- Day challenge I saw kindness when students would help teachers. By experiencing kindness I feel closer to my friends because they didn’t leave me when cleaning the cafeteria even when I got in trouble. – Ashley, 7th grade

I experienced kindness when I helped my mom by cleaning my room and cooking her some food. My mom was tired when she came back from her job so I decided to help her. By experiencing kindness I feel good because I did something helpful for my mom. – Naydelin, 7th grade

I learned that putting a smile on your face can actually make you feel good. First of all, always love yourself because people are great just the way they are, because it doesn't matter about the skin color or where they’re from only care about the person’s personality. More importantly, care about others. Clearly, the kindness challenge was a fun experience. – Juana, 6th grade

The most challenging thing was giving away something you really liked. I gave something that meant a lot to me, but it’s okay. I know they’re going to take care of it. I’m now starting to get along with almost everyone in the whole school. – Jose, 7th grade

The reason why I want to start doing kind things is because I like how after I do something kind I feel happy that it was the right thing to do. – Justice, 6th grade

What I liked about the challenge is that you could see how surprised and excited people were with the things given to them. – Carlos, 6th grade

The kindness challenge boosted my self-esteem and confidence. Just saying Hi can brighten someone’s day. It made me feel proud of myself and of my work. – Alyssa, 6th grade

I think that the kindness challenge made me a better person to my mom, brother, sister and dad. The kindness challenge made me positive instead of negative. – Osvaldo, 6th grade

I saw people being very nice to each other. I also saw people talking to people they had never talked to before and playing with different people. I even saw my friends being nice to other kids, which was awesome. – Elijah, grade 8

I could see the change in people’s hearts, as cheesy as that sounds. I could see people being a little nicer than usual. – Saul, grade 8
