The Awakin call this morning was wonderful! I'm feeling illuminated and inspired by the very heartfelt words of Justice Robert Yazzie of the Navajo Nation. I very much agree with him that the justice system should not simply be a means of finding blame and issuing punishment, but thought more of as a means of restoring harmony to society. He suggests that ways of doing this are sitting in a healing circle configuration to discuss an issue or crime and having family members, from both sides, present. He feels that having everyone present can help get to the root of the problem and thus enable people to make changes. I applaud the honourable Justice Yazzie for challenging the system he was redirected to as a child and then rediscovering his roots and the ancient wisdom of our First Nations people. Taking the good from both systems Is more likely to create a harmonious society in the long run. Thankyou Justice Yazzie for the inspiration and Thankyou to all the wonderful people involved in arranging this program!
