It was a blessing to host an early morning gathering of songs, stories and stillness with our beloved wandering minstrels Shruthi and Vedant on the occasion of Urban Ashram turning 9 last week.

We started our morning with an hour of silence at dawn to the accompaniment of birds chirping happily in the gardens as the city was quietly waking up. Then as the sun rose so did the voices (and spirits) of musicians and their mesmerised audience.

It was pure bliss to hear them sing and bring up songs of mystics like Kabir, Tukaram, Choka Mela along with the songs came the stories, the context, the wisdom of these great saints.
The mystic poetry of Kabir, Janabai, Gyaneshwar, Tukaram, et al put to soulful tunes and interspersed with beautiful stories gently stilled my mind and opened my heart to surrender to the truth of what I have always been.
Most of us were in tears when Shruthi and Vedenth were singing these songs, and someone even shared that she saw the butterflies and birds coming by the window and watching. Overall, it felt that for a space like Urban Ashram which has been a welcoming sanctuary for so many pilgrims, and a spiritual kindergarten to many young seekers it was a perfect entry into its 10th year of holding space.

A couple of songs that were recorded can be found here :
1. Vitthala
2. Yogi
