Knowing my love of Happiness Ninja Hi-jynx (covert happiness inducing pranks), for my birthday present this week, Scott and Jo decided to go do a ramdom act of kindness. They folded 50 paper cranes and took 50 clementines to a place they thought could use some kindness: the DMV. After breaking through the skepticism that they weren't trying to make money, or part of an organization, they spent the morning brightening people's days by handing out their gifts. Afterward, they crafted a beautiful card telling the story with photo evidence of themselves standing next to the long lines holding their basket of treasures. At my birthday dinner later that night, they presented the card to me along with my own crane and clementine. As if they hadn't already created enough ripples for one day, when i read the tale of their adventure to the whole dinner party, several guests responded by clasping their hands and announcing "What a beautiful idea! I'm going to start dedicating random acts of kindness to friends on their birthdays!" In 30 years, that might be the best present i've EVER received.
