It was also so great to see the participants and their families, speaking so authentically about what this means to them. Whether the physical condition gets cured or not (and I hope it does!), they feel mentally supported and that's really a worthy thing.

Yes Somik, we did do tests before and will repeat after so we'll keep all the data ready for a future paper.

Very nice. As part of a research protocol, I also suggest (and maybe you're already doing this) a distributed diary, that each participant keeps to record precise details of every meal they take and the time. With modern technology (read smartphones), this can be done easily with a free app like "Evernote" - participants can simply speak into it, and the note gets tagged by the time. Notebooks can be shared, and a researcher can then collate all of them to present it later. I also recommend that participants share how they feel on a daily basis, perhaps before they go to bed, and right after they wake up, and also take notes whenever they feel something is worth recording, using the same tool.

These methods go far beyond ethnomedicine and can form the basis of performing scientific research using both qualitative and quantitative data.
