At the last Awakin Wednesday, Nipun told a group of us a story about how someone at a retreat left a 100 pound note in his shoe. A fellow participant was amazed that someone would be so generous to anonymously leave so much money in a random shoe, so Nipun handed him the 100 pound note. This immediate funds transfer transformed the other participant's views of capital, generosity, and non-attachment.

At the end of the Awakin Wednesday, I was handed a thick envelope and told that someone in the ServiceSpace ecosystem had anonymously gifted this to me and my family. When I got home, I opened the envelope to find a huge wad of cash. I am still in awe that someone would be so kind and generous in complete anonymity. Nipun's story still resonated in my heart, so my sons and I have decided to pay forward this incredible donation by committing to 100 acts of kindness (I'm going to need to get a lot more smile cards ;)).

I am so amazed by the generosity of the Service Space community. From helping me navigate my cancer healing journey to holding space for my 12 year old son when he was going through a crisis, this community has supported me and my family in ways both seen and unseen. I picture all these acts of kindness, generosity, and service like individual branches in the mycelial network of love. It makes perfect sense that one of the first acts of kindness 9 year old Fox wanted to do was donate to a website that planted one tree for every $1 donated.

We are so grateful to participate in this transfer of love, care, and compassion. I know in my heart of hearts that my sons are explicitly learning that real wealth is in the connections you make, rather than the amount of green paper you hold. Thank you all for connecting with me and my family in this lifetime and those lifetimes before and after.

Me Ke Aloha (With Love and Compassion),
Makala Kozo
