Newest issue of our newsletter is out!

This week’s news begins with a reminder that kinship exists even between strangers such as Al Nixon’s park bench in Florida, a resting place for the weary, where stories and secrets are shared over a consistent sunrise that judges no one and fills everyone with the hope that the day will get better. This hope can be felt when Fadi, a Muslim nurse stumbles upon Mor, a Jewish man badly injured, and the two are confronted with the choice between life and death and the moral obligation to choose kindness. They end up saving each other’s conscience with a renewed faith in humanity and a promise to share a common meal of hummus in the belief that sooner or later, Muslims and Jews will coexist peacefully as it were before the most recent riots.

This sense of higher calling resonates with a group of teenagers in India who decide to abandon their longing to return to school, to normalcy, choosing instead to spend their spare time helping Covid-19 patients. For a project that began as a simple passing of time, the ripples of their incredible bravery can be felt throughout the nation -- proof that every small act leads to another small act, and if the chain remains unbroken, those acts lead to the biggest display of human solidarity that ensures a gentle continuity of life through kindness. It is in the spirit of never giving up hope that the story of two siblings separated at birth find each other living miles apart in Oklahoma, putting their 40-year search to rest. That unrelenting spirit of connectedness is also revealed in the story of a British teenager whose message of hope displayed over a bridge helped save 6 people’s lives by reminding them that they are loved, and that they are better than the sum of all their darkest hours.

These stories are a roundup of what compassion looks like in action and a call to connect with each other by choosing to listen to the gentle tugging of our hearts.
