Yesterday, many of were by the bedside of a beloved friend from Awakin Circles in Santa Clara -- brother Ganoba. Many years back, he and his wife would come visit their daughter in the bay-area and they would join the circle on Wednesdays. As his wife passed away, he started to spend more time in the bay-area and engaged with the community in beautiful ways. One time with brother John Malloy, in a native ceremony with former convicts on a mountain, he moved himself and everyone to tears.
Although his lungs are now failing him, he is glowing with radiance, smiles and constantly speaking of love -- with his visitors, nurses, hospital staff, and even to himself. Yesterday, as herman@s Viral and Pavi --who was her birthday! :-)-- were holding one of his hands, and hermano Nipun holding the other, and his biological daughter and I by his feet, he shared some deep messages. "Life is One", he said so empathetically that all his heart monitors went berserk almost instantaneously. His daughter had to insist that he pause for couple minutes. He added that we have to use intelligence, skill and creativity to serve each moment but if we start thinking that we are doing the action, we will isolate ourselves and suffering will start.
Few days back, he had an incredible mystical experience where he found himself on the motherly lap of Indian goddess Saraswati. He wept profusely and his family and medical staff started worrying, when he told 'em that he was in ecstasy. :) "I have visited everyone in the world. Everyone is fine, and so full of love. All those who seem to be in pain, are just in a little bit in trouble but they'll be okay. We're all fundamentally love."
As we were leaving, he kissed us on the forehead, and put on the black barrette I usually wear as I pulled his beard. :) So inspiring to see Ganoba inspire, even as death is knocking on his door.
