Dear Preeta, thank you very much for this article, it is not only a pleasure to read, but it touches so many angles and perspectives, that reflection arises naturally.
I grew up in Chile, were the laws at the time of my childhood were not really inclusive, in my case because my father did not recognize me and gave me his name, by law I was considered an "illegitimate child" , therefore when my mum passed away I could not inherit as a "legitimate" child would do, even if it was my mum who had died. It was such a difficult moment for me, to lose my mother and feel the laws of my own country did not protect me, and didn't even support me. Luckily these laws changed in Chile around 15 years ago, but it was such a legal "battle" against so many forces to make every child a legitimate child. Probably because of my early experience in life, I always felt internal change was important, and was what kept me going, but without laws that empower people the inner change cannot create enough ripples to benefit everyone.
You have made such an amazing journey, thanks so much for all your work and for sharing it here, so we all can benefit from it
