Bridging by acknowledging each others pain, perspective, etc to allow for being felt, seen and heard is missing in the USA. It saddens me. I grew up on the border of USA and Mexico where appreciating an participating in each culture was the norm. I felt connect in both cities . I also saw the othering or discrimination in words and action because I was Mexican American from both sides - anglos who saw me as a Mexican and Mexicans who saw me to American . I learned from my parents to seek to understand and yet hold a boundary of mutual respect. My big concern is leaders who run government that come with intentions to steal and fire up hate because they are driven from their experience of hate.
