After walking out of the door of Karma Kitchen on Sunday, I saw a street musician sitting on the sidewalk with her head down. I approached her and quietly placed a smiley face balloon (from the kindness table) in her empty guitar case. She looked up with a huge smile on her face and said "that was exactly what I needed right now!" Shortly after that sweet exchange, a homeless man approached me to buy his "Street Spirit" newspaper which supports the homeless community. Instead of giving him money, I offered him a heart pin (also from the kindness table) that was just gifted to me from a guest. I explained to him about the children from India that make these pendants. He looked straight in my eyes and happily said "now that is a gift from the heart, please take this newspaper for free from my heart." As he walked away, I saw him tightly gripping the heart in his hand. May the spirit of the streets of Karma Kitchen and all neighborhoods beat on and on and on...
