Something else that I remembered from one of Zilong's talk was a story of Buddha on his alms round with his student and how he was rejected by many people and not his student. Buddha later explained to his student that in previous life those people were bugs and he had kind of shoo-ed them away so it was his karma... So when we are are rejected it is our karma coming back :-)
