At our recent HeArt Circle, we wrote gratitude letters for our mothers, grandmothers, and maternal role models.
It so happened that only a couple of us made it that day -- but what transpired was such a powerful, deepening experience.
One of the participants wrote recently of this ripple, 1500 kilometers away, in his family's village:
The letters were delivered when I was in my village. I didn't tell my mom and grandmom that I'd written them. They were amazed to see those.
My mom was saying that grandma was first frightened to receive a letter, as she never gets letters on her name, later my mom noticed my handwriting and said it was from me. She was so happy. My neighbourhood people were asking my grandma whether she received any benefits from government or what?? :) My grandpa, brother, uncle, aunt were asking her what was in that letter. Everyone rounded her and she read the letter at evening tea time.
After reading, grandma told me that "The love you all are showing to me is what I earned these years, how many people around us having such a pleasure. This is all I got and it will be forever. I wish everyone of you to be kind and lovable to each other."
Later she kept letter in her old iron trunk box, in which she keep all her pattu sarees [special traditional dress].
My mother silently read her letter and didn't say anything about it.
Your idea has traveled #1500km and bought smile on all our faces.
